Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO) Shines at National Robotics Challenge — Emerges First Runner-Up in Maiden Appearance

In a spectacular debut at the RAIL & AI4SD National Robotics Challenge, Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO) has made the Northern Region proud by emerging First Runner-Up in a contest that celebrated innovation, creativity, and real-world problem solving through robotics.

The competition, organized by RAIL KNUST in collaboration with AI4SD and in partnership with the French Embassy, was held on 24th October at the Great Hall, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The event brought together some of Ghana’s brightest young innovators from senior high schools across the country to design and build robotic solutions that address everyday challenges.

In what marked TAMASCO’s first-ever participation, the students displayed exceptional skill, determination, and teamwork—earning them a well-deserved second-place finish. Despite facing strong competition from Avenor SHS, a school known for its consistent participation in the challenge, TAMASCO’s debut performance captured the admiration of judges and participants alike.

The team’s success was guided by two dedicated mentors, Mr. Abdul-Razak Abdul-Rahman and Mr. Abdul-Aziz Abdul-Karim, whose tireless efforts in training, motivating, and preparing the students made this achievement possible. Their mentorship was further strengthened by the support of the French Embassy, which provided two laptops to enhance their engagement with the school’s robotics club and STEM activities.

The judges and organizers commended TAMASCO for their innovative thinking, creative design, and ability to apply technology to practical challenges, describing their project as an inspiring step toward fostering STEM innovation in Northern Ghana.

Speaking after the competition, the mentors expressed their pride and optimism:

“This milestone shows that when our students are given the right tools and guidance, they can excel anywhere. This is just the beginning of a greater journey for TAMASCO and the Northern Region.”

TAMASCO’s outstanding performance has not only placed the school among Ghana’s emerging leaders in STEM and robotics but has also inspired other schools in the Northern Region to embrace technology and innovation as key drivers of education.

As the school community celebrates this achievement, one thing is clear — TAMASCO’s first appearance at KNUST has set a new standard of excellence, creativity, and resilience.

Congratulations to Team TAMASCO for making the Northern Region proud!
